Texas Knights Football Organization is a resource for getting young men into college, a shot at professional athletic exposure, and most urgently out of the wicked streets.
Statistics show that in 2009 there were greater than 444,000 men incarcerated between the ages of 18-34 in the U.S.(statista.com) This fact hit home for one Mr. James Blackshire, owner and head coach of the Texas Knights. He took the issue of socially displaced young men and decided to devise a strategy to fight against what has sadly become the norm: Street life, Crime, and Drugs.
In partnership with Co-Owner Rodney Fisher (RF Sports Radio), and a host of other leaders from the community and professional sports realm, Coach Blackshire has built a squad with a winning pedigree; that provides both an outlet and solution for youth who otherwise may not have had many positive options.
Texas Knights Football Organization is minority owned and operated and host their games at local community colleges as they strive for increased funding and sponsorships to assist in providing even better opportunities and growth for the players and participants.
Coach Blackshire was nominated as Coach of the Year in 2008 when the Knights brought back the title for the Texas Louisiana Football League Bowl Championship. His expertise also lead the Dallas Warriors to victory back in 2006, when they ran away with the Gulf Coast Championship holding a 14-1 record.
The 2014 season starts in February, but the team has already begun rigorous training in preparation to reclaim the title. The hard work of the new coaching staff has raised the anticipation for the new season. The key focus this year will be making the community more aware of this opportunity that invites everyone to help uplift these young men and provide the example to those even younger. Together we can subtract and not add to the 444,000.
